Wednesday, May 08, 2002 ![]() Well, what the heck, it does say daily thoughts and ramblings after all. Don't feel like I have much to write (actually don't feel much like writing at all this morning) but why not. At the very least it's the shortest interval between ramblings. The weird thing about this venue is it's both public and private. I mean, since it's more-or-less a journal, I'm tempted to just spout my private thoughts. But my fingers are restrained by the knowledge that it is a public forum; not only can everyone I know potentially see it, but so can the rest of the world, my employer, Big Brother, whoever. Particularly unnerving is my growing realization that every little mark you make on the web is quite permanent. Even if you delete it later, several engines comb the web continuously and archive its current state. A few examples of these are waybackmachine.org and google.com's cached pages. So in effect you're leaving this indelible record of information connected to yourself, for all eternity to ponder or ignore, all of which could potentially be used against you in some unforseen way. Bizarre. Enough to make you check your spelling, at least. My favorite blog entry (of my own!) so far is the one about "Jump Tomorrow" (maybe because it's my shortest entry), so I'll note another movie I just saw, "Legally Blonde". It was completely unrealistic, unsure of its genre (farce or comedy), and a pure delight to watch. I managed to ignore the problems with the writing and grinned the whole way through. Reese Witherspoon's performance reminded me of her role in "Election"; she's got this great face for appearing incredibly determined and simultaneously clueless, the kind of person that doesn't know enough to understand why they should fail, and therefore doesn't. Which (again like "Election"), reminds me of certain real world politicians. Ah yes the Tenerife trip. Overcast about half the time I was there, I still managed to get some sun. Wasn't overly impressed with the bar scene, outside of Linekers which is a laugh. posted by Karl | 9:23 AM | 0 Comments: |
